Joris Backer

Joris Backer is a lawyer and former member of the Dutch Senate for D66, with extensive experience in politics, law and business.

Joris Backer served as a member of the Dutch Senate for D66 from 2011 to 2023. He was Director Corporate Legal at Schiphol and previously worked as a lawyer and at Shell. Backer chaired the committees that drafted the D66 election manifestos in 2006 and 2010. During his time in the Senate, he focused on areas including European affairs, justice, finance and science. From 2015 to 2019, he served as Second Deputy Speaker of the Senate and was acting President of the Senate in 2019.
